Investigation of the relationship between microalbuminuria level and microRNA in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract (EN)

Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most serious microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus with increasing prevalence and mortality. Currently, kidney function is evaluated by calculating albumin excretion rate and glomerular filtration rate. Early diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy has an important role in improving kidney function and delaying the progression of the disease with drugs. There is a need for biomarkers that can characterize the structural changes associated with the kidney. In recent years, micrornas used in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of many diseases have been defined. In our study, the effect of patients using dapagliflozin, a sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor, on diabetic nephropathy-associated microRNAs was investigated retrospectively. In 47 patients diagnosed with diabetic nephropathy and using dapagliflozin, a statistically significant decrease was found in miRNA 21, miRNA 141 and miRNA 377 levels on the 60th day after treatment compared to pre-treatment (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the micRNA levels examined and serum glucose, hbA1C value, microalbuminuri and micrototal protein levels.
