Investigation of ADIPOQ and FTO genes polymorphisms in type 2 diabetes patients

Abstract (EN)

This study is to investigate the association of Associated gene (FTO) gene polymorphisms (rs9939609) and ADIPOQ gene polymorphisms (rs1501299) as potential predictors of type 2 diabetes between two groups, one with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the other without diabetes, in the Turkish population. The study included 350 participants with obesity and T2D, with a matching cohort of 350 obese non-diabetic. Venous blood samples were taken for DNA extraction. Genotyping was performed to identify various alleles for each gene using specific primers and restriction enzymes. Genotype and allele frequencies determined by multinomial logistic regression analysis for FTO single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs9939609) and ADIPOQ gene polymorphisms (rs1501299) across all study groups. The results of our study on the Turkish population show that rs9939609 of the FTO gene is not directly related to T2D formation. In addition, according to the findings of this study, the ratios of each genotype (A/A, T/A, T/T) (0.12, 0.44, 0.44) and for the control group (0.11, 0.52, 0.37), respectively the allele frequencies of FTOrs rs9939609A>T also were not significantly different between T2D case and controls (p-value =0.54). FTOrs rs9939609A>T is not associated with T2D in our study. According to our findings in this study, the ratios of each genotype for the patient group (G/G, G/T, T/T) (0.54, 0.38, 0.08) and for the control group (0.42, 0.43, 0.14), respectively. The allele frequencies of ADIPOQ SNP rs1501299G >T also were not significantly different between T2D case and controls (p-value =0.45). ADIPOQ SNP rs1501299 G>T is not associated with T2D in our study In conclusion, the results of our research between FTOrs 9939609 and 150 ADIPOQrs1501299 and 200 samples did not show a significant difference and correlation between type 2 diabetics and these two SNPs in the Turkish population
