Abstract (EN)

Hydroxyapatite (HA), is a biomaterial within the apatite group of bioactive ceramics containing calcium and phosphate groups within the structure thereof. It is chemically close to apatite structure of the bone and other hard tissues thanks to this feature thereof. However, Hydroxyapatite is generally utilized only as coating on the base material inasmuch as it cannot meet the values of bone by itself alone due to its mechanical features. Non-toxic and non-metallic biomaterials which do not cause allergic reactions in the body are preferred as base materials. In this study, Ti6Al4V alloy, which is the most preferred alloy among titanium alloys, was used as the base material. Biomimetic method was preferred for the coating process and preparated of a simulated body fluid (SBF) environment with the ion same value of the blood plasma was applied. Our study aimed to apply hydroxyapatite coating on Ti6Al4V alloy through biomimetic technique by using aminoacetic acid-sodium aminoacetate buffer system environment for the first time in literature and carry out examinations related thereto. The surface of the Ti6Al4V alloy, selected as base material, was activated with various chemicals. Subsequent to activating the surface, coating process of the base material kept in simulated body fluid for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours was carried out. Surface roughness and coating thickness measurements of coatings obtained by using biomimetic method were performed through employment of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and their microstructures were examined and EDS analyses were made for determination of weighted percent distribution of the elements on the surface of the coatings while XRD analysis was conducted to determine the concentrations of the phases of the coating. Findings, obtained as a result of mechanical tests and metallographic analyses, were examined and discussed. Successful results were obtained by virtue of this method which was used in the literature for the first time.
