ABSTRACT Master Thesis SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES OF THE SCHIFF BASE HAVING THIAZOLE RING THIOSEMICARBAZITE DERIVATED Kamiran SARAÇ Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciencies, Department of Chemistry 2003, Page: 57 In this study, 4-tolyl-2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L'h), 4-phenyl-2-(2- hydroxybenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L"n), 4-phenyl-2-(2-hydroxy-5-bromobeıızylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L~n), 4-tolyl-2-(2-hydroxy-5-bromobenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L4H), 4-phenyl-2-(2- liydroxy-3-niethoxybenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L5|.() ligands and their complexes with some first row transition metal complexes were synthesised. 2-Hydroxybenzylidene thiosemicarbazone was synthesised from the reactions of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide. 4-Tolyl-2-(2- hydroxybenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L'H) and 4-phenyl-2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L"h) were synthesised from the reactions of 2-hydroxybenzylidene thiosemicarbazone with tolyl chloro methyl keton and phenyl chloro methyl keton. 2-Hydroxy-5-bromobenzylidene thiosemicarbazone was synthesised from the reactions of 2-hyroxy-5-bromobenzaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide. 4-Phenyl-2-(2- hydroxy-5-bromobenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L3H) and 4-tolyl-2-(2-hydroxy-5-bromobenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L H) were synthesised from the reactions of 2-hydroxy-5-bromobenzylidene thiosemicarbazone with phenyl chloro methyl keton and tolyl chloro methyl keton, respectively. 2- Hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene thiosemicarbazone was synthesised from the reactions of 2-hydroxy-3- metoxybenzaldehyde and thiosemicarbazide. 4-Tolyl-2-(2-hydroxy-3-mefhoxybenzylidene hidrazino) thiazole (L5H) was synthesised from the reaction of 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene thiosemicarbazone with tolyl chloro methyl keton respectively. Complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) (Metal / Ligand ratio of 1 : 2) were synthesised from their salts with (L'h), (L2h), (L3h), (L4h) and (L5H) Schiff bases. Ligands were behaved as bidentate ligand from phenolic -OH, imine nitrogen(-CH=N-) sites. Structure of synthesised ligands and then- complexes have been characterized by FT- IR, 'H-NMR, magnetic sitsseptibility measurements, melting points.
