Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the synthesis of ruthenium(II)-N,S-heterocyclic carbene (NSHC) complexes containing thiazole ring and their catalytic activity properties in the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds were investigated. Nheterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and their transition metal complexes have been used extensively in catalytic applications in recent years due to their success in applying green chemistry principles. In this study, in the first step, NSHC precursors were prepared by synthesizing a series of 3-alkyl-4-methyl-5- hydroxyethylthiazolium halide salts (1a-h) from 4-methyl-5- hydroxyethylthiazole. In the second step, new mononuclear Ru(II)-N,S-NHC complexes (2a-g) were synthesized by interacting these carbene precursors in the presence of Ag2O and [(p-cymene)Cl2Ru]2 at room temperature. Under the same conditions as the 1h salt, the Ru(II)-N-(4-methyl-5-hydroxyethylthiazole) (3) complex was formed. All synthesized structures were characterized by spectroscopic and physical methods such as NMR, X-ray difraction, FT-IR, elemental analysis and melting point. In the last stage, the catalytic activities of the prepared Ru(II)-NSHC (2a-g) and Ru-coordinated (3) complexes in the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in water were examined and compared.
