Abstract (EN)

Pocket watches, which started to be built with the invention of the zebra in the 1500s, continued to be used with great appreciation until the 20th century. Pocket watches, which were started to be built in Germany, and encountered in Europe and later on the Ottoman lands, are an example of the advancement of technology as well as the development of decoration items on it. Pocket watches, the production of which increased and became widespread over the years, first entered the Ottoman lands through diplomatic means; Later, construction began here. Pocket watches that come to the palace as a diplomatic gift, then by purchasing or other means are included in the watch collection of Topkapı Palace Museum today. Apart from these, thanks to the watches coming from Europe for the Ottoman market and the clock colony production that started to form in the Galata district of Istanbul in the 16th century, the interest and demand for pocket watches increased, and accordingly, production was made not only for the palace but also for the public. Many of these watches are found in antiques, old watchmakers and private collections. One of these collections is in the Sadberk Hanım Museum. The aim of this thesis is to examine the pictures on the pocket watches in the Topkapı Palace Museum watch collection and Sadberk Hanım Museum Cevher collection. Most of the pocket watches in these collections are decorated with landscapes, floral motifs or embellishments, various musical and war instruments, and coatings, and different construction techniques have been applied. Many visual materials were scanned for this; The internet environment and resources in the library were used. As a result of the written and visual sources that can be accessed, those who are in the Topkapı Palace Museum and Sadberk Hanım Museum collections and with portraits and portraits were handled. they were compared with other artworks and visual materials.
