Integrated design management in mass-housing production: Bursa case

Expectations regarding the need for housing, which is one of the basic needs, have changed over time with living conditions. The changing of expectations and the massification of housing production necessitated the involvement of many participants in the production process. As a result of the complexity of the housing production process for various reasons, different forms of Project management have been introduced to control the process. One of thes forms of management is integrated building design management. This understanding requires the participant involved in the production process to act cooperatively in coordination from the beginning of the process. Through to this organization, it allows to predict the problems that may arise during the process, to use the available resources efficiently, to foresee the effect of the design on the next stages and to achieve the aims of the planning process. In this thesis study, the perspectives of the construction companies, who have similar production volumes, operating in the central districts of Bursa and the participants who provide design services to these companies about the concept of integrated building design management, their roles in the design process and the organizational relationship between them are defined. As a result of the research, also based on the survey data, it was mentioned how the integrated building design management approach would shape the housing production environment.
