Abstract (EN)
There are many city museum in the world and Turkey. Even in many small populated districts, city museums are now found. The number of city museums is increasing day by day. Local governments allocate large resources for the establishment and operation of city museums, but they are having difficulty in producing the basic benefit expected from museums. The main question of this study is to what extent the city museums, whose main foundation is to fulfill the function of a social memory center, can fulfill this mission. The concept of social memory and city museums as the two main components of the subject are explained in detail in the first two chapters. In the third part, the comparison between the functions of the social memory center and the activities of the city museum will be compared and to what extent the museums can fulfill the function of the memory center will be determined. Again, in this section, the functions that should be implemented in the city museums in order to fulfill the function of a social memory center, and the activities that are currently implemented and which, together with the purpose of carrying out the social memory center function, will be listed.
