Linear and nonlinear two dimensional dynamic analysis of earthfill dams by drucker-prager and curve description methods

SUMMARY Linear And Nonlinear Two Dimensional Dynamic Analysis Of Earthfill Dams By Drucker-Prager And Curve Description Methods In this work, two dimensional linear dynamic analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis including material nonlinearities are carried out. Material used in analyses is assumed to be isotropic. In nonlinear analysis elasto-plastic material behaviour is taken into account. The Drucker-Prager method and curve description method are considered to describe the elasto-plastic material models. The differences between linear and nonlinear analyses of a sample earthfill dam are performed as well as two different method used in nonlinear dynamic analyses. This work consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the historical developments of earthfill dams, previous works employed on the earthfill dams, design criteria of earthfill dams, the forces subjected to earthfill dams, identification of the Westergaard Method, expressions and formulations related the finite element method, stiffness, damping and mass matrices, identification of material models and formulations of step-by- step solution for dynamic analyses are mentioned. The finite element model is introduced to perform dynamic analysis by applying mathematical model to analytical model. Also, material properties used in analyses and information about El-Centro Earthquake is given. In the third chapter, the results obtained from the dynamic analyses are given with tables and graphics, and also are evaluated.
