PROPERTIES OF POWDER METALLURGY BRONZE BEARING MATERIALS (M. S. Thesis) Adem KURT Gazi Universty Institute Of Science And Technology JANUARY 1992 ABSTRACT In this study, self-lubricating bearing materials from bronze powders were produced and their tribo-mechanical properties were investigated. Bronze alloy was 10% Tin and 90% copper and the mean powder size was 63 micrometer. Powders were mixed with 1.0% graphite powder and then pressed at pressures from 127 MPa to 1528 MPa. Sintering was carried out at 800 °C. Strain hardening, densification and porosity distribution at various pressures were measured. Microstructure of materials after sintering were recorded. Sintered samples were oil impregnated and then their wear behaviours were tested. Tensile samples were prepared and tested, which were pressed at the pressure that gave the best wear behaviour. Later, powder metallurgy bronze bearing materials and cast bronze bearing materials of the same composition were compared. This study showed that performance of powder metallurgy bearing materials were much better. vn
