Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT Master Thesis THE INVESTIGATION OF ABRASIVE WEAR OF Cu-C-Al2SiOs COMPOSITE PRODUCTED BY POWDER METALLURGY PROCESS Çetin ÖZAY Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Mechanical Education 2004, Page: 73 In this study, the effect of C and aluminium silicate (Al2Si05 ) on abrasive wear of Cu-C - \l2Si05 composite produced by powder metallurgy, contemning 5, 10, 15 vol % C and Al2Si05 in Cu natrix was investigated. In the experiments, microstructures of the samples were examined by optical and scanning îlectron microcopy ( SEM ), Energy Dispersive Spectrograph ( EDS ), X- Ray diffraction analysis were carried out and microhardnesses were measured. Wear resistances of samples were determined jsing different loads ( ION, 20N, 3 ON ) by pin on disc wear test machine developed for this sxperiment. As a result of experiments, it has been found that with the increasing content of.einforcing elements, wear rate increased and the 5 vol. % C and Al2Si05 reinforced sample showed he highest wear resistance in the experiment conditions. The study consist of six chapters. In the first chapter of study, indroduction, literature related :o the subject and purpose of study were given. In the second chapter powder metallurg process was iecribed. In the third chapter the mechanism of the wear, various wear types and factors affecting the vear were presented. In the fourth chapter, composite materials and its properties were given. In the ifth chapter material and method were decribed. In the sixth chapter the results were discussed and in he final chapter, conclusion and recommendations have been presented. Keywords : Powder Metallurgy, Silicate, Abrasive Wear VIII
