Dialect of Yomra district in Trabzon province (examination-texts-dictionary)

This study examines linguistic data collected from the district center of Yomra in Trabzon and various settlements connected to the district, focusing on phonetic features and vocabulary. The main aim is to identify the region's phonetic characteristics through texts produced by carefully transcribing audio recordings obtained from these settlements. While selecting informants, several criteria were taken into consideration, such as being above a certain age, having lived in the same settlement without long-term absence, possessing a proper jaw and oral structure, and having no conditions that could hinder speech. During the transcription process, the dialect transcription alphabet determined by the Turkish Language Association (TDK) was used. For certain sounds not included in this alphabet, commonly accepted symbols used in dialect studies were adopted. Since there is no academic thesis specifically examining the dialect features of Yomra, the necessity of conducting such a study has emerged. Yomra is considered to strongly reflect the dialectal characteristics of the Eastern Black Sea region. In the "Introduction" section, general information is provided about the district's name, history, geographical conditions, cultural structure, and population. The "Analysis" section focuses on phonetics, followed by the "Texts" and "Glossary" sections. Based on the collected data, a "References" section and an "Informant List" were also prepared. Overall, the study is based on texts compiled from 26 informants and investigates the dialect of Yomra in terms of phonetics and vocabulary.
