Cyprus peace operation according to Trabzon veterans

In this study, The Cyprus Peace Operation has been quoted through tellings of veterans who joined the Cyprus Peace Operation from Trabzon. In addition, situations of veterans from Trabzon before and after the operation have also been discussed. After the island became under dominance of Ottoman Empire in 1571, a wide range of autonomy was granted to island Greeks. During the stages when the island was under British rule, Greeks started to take action to realize their Enosis wishes and founded a terrorist organization called EOKA for the Cyprus Struggle. Turks in retun for this founded a local resistance organization called Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) and attempted to protect themselves. The fact that Russians arrived till Istanbul Yesilkoy during 1877-1878 Russo-Ottoman War urged Britain to take action who had interests towards Ottoman lands. The British invaded the Island in 1914. This treaty was accepted by the Turks through Lozan Treaty. The British dominance which started in Cyprus in 1925 ended with the Cyprus Republic which was founded under guarantee of Turkey, Greece and Britain in 1960. The years of 1963 and 1967 are the phases where intense attacks took place against the Turks by the Greeks. The attacks continued from time to time until 1974. The conflict going through among the inside of the Greeks emerged thanks to the coup against the archbishop Makarios. This incidence was considered the realization of Enosis by the Turks and Turkey staged military coup on the Island on 20th July 1974 and on 14th August 1974. 30 veteran interviews have been made as part of our study. On the basis of the information provided by our veterans, the Cyprus Peace Operation has been quoted and the situations experienced by our veterans have been discussed. Likewise, attendance of subjects from Trabzon to charity campaigns all over the country and the events gone through Operation phases have been attempted to be conveyed under the title of Resonances of the Cyprus Peace Operation in Trabzon.
