ABSTRACT Aslıhan KORKMAZ, Assessment of the Factors That Effects Social Isolation of the Patient With Tracheostomy, Hasan Kalyoncu Üniversity, Health Sciences Institute, Department of Nursing, MSc Thesis, Gaziantep, 2018. The study was conducted with 58 tracheostomized patients who were planned to evaluate the factors affecting the social isolation conditions and the problems encountered by tracheostomy patients who underwent tracheostomy surgery between December 2016 and November 2017 at ENT clinics of Gaziantep University. The data were collected using "Sociodemographic Features" and the "Social Adaptation Self-evaluation Scale (SAAS)". The obtained data were evaluated by the researcher using the SPSS 24.0 package program on the computer. 55.2% were male, 44.8% were male, 70.7% were married, 86.3% were living with their families, 46.6% were primary school graduates, 55.2% of the respondents said that they live in the city, 48.3% are equivalent to income, 32.8% are workers, 87.9% have no chronic diseases and 55.2% are supported by their spouses during their illness. The mean score of SASS was calculated as 32.769.73. The difference between the groups was significant in terms of the level of income of the average SASS score of the patients (p<0.05). It has been determined that patients with tracheostomy affect the social adjustment process. Key Words: Tracheostomy, SASS, social isolation
