Abstract (EN)

Study area located between Uzunköprü and Enez in the western part of Thrace Basin. This research aims to investigate NE-SW trending fault zone and to study effect of these fault system on stratigraphic units.Eocene-Pliocene aged sedimentary units uncomformably overly the basement which represented by metamorphic unit and ophiolitic complex. Eocene-Early Miocene sedimentary units effected by Thrace Fault System and upper portion of sequence eroded in some localities. At the beginning of the study, lineaments were investigated and mapped on topographic maps and Landsat satellite images. Total 5 trenchs were excavated along the lineaments. Structural elements mapped around NE-SW trending lineaments during field study. Two-way time maps were prepared to the northeast of study area to collect supplementary data for tectonic evolution of the Thrace Basin and to define the paleogeographic records during Early Eocene and Miocene times.NE-SW directed structural elements were mapped first time in this study. Also, NE-SW trending fault system was correlated with NE-SW terending Neotectonic fault system in Greece. Two paleotopography maps and five structural maps were prepared by using seven reflection surfaces in seismic sections. Paleotopography map of base Ergene Formation shows that discordance surface of base Ergene Formation approached to the surface in the southern part of the study area. Because of the structural uplift and erosion which caused by Thrace Fault System, lignite interbeds climbing to the surface in the southern part of the paleotopographic map. This result shows that lignite levels are in economic and average working depth in the south of mapped area.
