Abstract (EN)
In the thesis, an experimental investigation of pure and mixed states of gasoline and trimethyl borate (TMB) fuels, flame characteristics, maximum flame temperature and emission formations in various experimental setups was carried out. Flame behavior was investigated by burning gasoline and TMB fuels in pure and mixed form in Bunsen burner, droplet wire and channel test systems. Blended fuels are obtained by adding 20% by mass and its multiples of TMB, if gasoline fuel is considered as the main fuel. The blended fuels were examined in 3 different experimental systems. These test systems; droplet, Bunsen burner and channel combustion test systems. In the droplet test system; The changes in the diameters of the fuel droplets, live flame images and atomization structure were investigated. As a result of the droplet experiments, as the mass of TMB in the mixed fuel decreased, the flame spread raised and the chemiluminescence were observed as red-yellow-white. It has been noted that when the TMB ratio by mass raises in the blended fuel used in the experiments, there is a shortening of the flame length and green chemiluminescence. It was observed that the combustion times soared with the diminish of TMB in the blended fuels. During the droplet experiments, it was determined that the addition of TMB in the content of the blended fuels caused radical raises in the ignition delay times. Similarly, the maximum temperature value measured during combustion also increases depending on the TMB ratio by mass in the mixed fuel. In the second experimental system, which was carried out experimentally, investigations were carried out on the basis of Bunsen burner. Gasoline fuel is determined as the main fuel and the mixture fuels formed by adding TMB at 5% and increasing the mixing ratio at certain flow rates (1.5 lt/min, 2.25 lt/min, 3 lt/min, 3.75 lt/min, 4.5 lt/min, 5.25 lt/min.) min, 6 lt/min, 6.75 lt/min and 7.5 lt/min) were analyzed. Flame characteristics and emission outputs were investigated in the Bunsen burner experimental system. As observed in the droplet experiments, it was detected that as the TMB ratio in the fuel mixture increased, the flame chemiluminescence was green in color, and the color darkness changed depending on the rise in the ratio. It has been determined that the increase in TMB ratio causes radical soars in flame behavior and a decrease in carbon monoxide (CO) values, one of the emission gases. In the last experimental system carried out within the scope of the thesis, the velocity profile of the fuel moving along the channel was examined. The effects of fuel viscosity and particulate structures on flame velocity were investigated by examining the differences in flame rates of blended fuels. As a result of the examination of the mixed fuels carried out within the scope of the thesis in various experimental setups, it has been seen that gasoline and TMB fuels can be used in configurations that can provide the valuable results in mixing ratios.
