Examining determinants of regret and well-being in tourists' gastronomic experiences: The role of consumer trends

This study aims to examine the role of determinants and consumer trends in tourists' regret and well-being related to gastronomy experiences. Firstly, the effect of cognitive, affective and behavioural attitudes on satisfaction with gastronomy experiences and the relationship between satisfaction and Regret and oedemonic and hedonic well-being and the regulatory role of FOMO, JOMO, YOLO and solo (dining) in this relationship were examined. Quantitative research methods were adopted for the test of the study objectives and the test of hypotheses was carried out by partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method using SmartPLS software. Questionnaires collected from 414 foreign tourists who visited Istanbul and had gastronomy experiences were analysed. Thanks to the findings obtained, firstly, it was found that tourists' satisfaction levels in gastronomy experiences were significantly positively affected by each of the cognitive, affective and behavioural attitudes, and satisfaction had a significant positive effect on both regret and oedemonic and hedonic well-being. Then, it was concluded that FOMO strengthened the relationship between satisfaction and oedemonic well-being, JOMO strengthened the relationship between satisfaction and regret, and YOLO mitigated the relationship between satisfaction and oedemonic well-being and strengthened the relationship between satisfaction and regret.
