Abstract (EN)

Family businesses that have an important place in the Turkish and world economies are having difficulties in adapting to change with globalization. It has been investigated that family businesses, which have an important place in the economic and social field, have very short operating lives with the protection family ownership. In the global market, where competitive conditions are hardening, it is observed that family businesses' sustainability and competitiveness are diminished by the problems they face. For this reason, the "restructure" of family businesses is inevitable. The most important reason why family businesses can not adapt to the global market and changing competition conditions is the inability to institutionalize. The most important obstacle in front of family businesses in the process of restructure (ie institutionalization) is conflicts of generations. In the study, the structures of family businesses, relations of family and business, actual generational conflicts, causes of the inability to institutionalize and the related effect of generational conflicts have been examined and interpreted. Keywords: Family businesses, generational conflicts, inability to institutionalize.
