Violations of law in Turkish media and the legal basis of penal sanctionings

The rapid development in information and communication technologies has eased and diversified the methods of interference in private lives of people. In this sense; a reasonable rise has started to be observed in the rates of the crimes against persons and goods which are commited via media, radio, television and the internet increasingly. Collaterally to the rapid development within the media, which is recently regarded as the fourth force to influence the social life; the secrecy of private life and other personal rights must be protected because these are the most fundamental and unalienable rights that are possessed by a person just because he is a human being. Due to this protection, some notions such as the secrecy of private life and the freedom of thought and expression face off against each other. Eventhough it is because of the media that people use their rights for the freedom of obtainment of information and expression easefully; the media again, must abide by law while doing its job. If the media organs don't abide by law within these circumstances or crosses the lines of complience with laws, varied sanctions may be the point in question to save social and state orders.
