Abstract (EN)

Turkish Republic followed a foreign policy from its foundation to the 1950?s which based on multilaterality and considering balance of power among the dominant European world powers. But, after the Second World War Turkey understood that it could not follow this foreign policy. When DP was in power Turkish foreign policy was changed dynamically and it became more active.Turkey?s political choice was economic and political integration choice with the Western World. This decision of choice was given by CHP before the DP elected. CHP completely could not reach to accomplishment related to integration with Western Bloc. After DP was in power, there was no change in the Turkish foreign policy. In the way of cooperation with the West, specifically take in part in Korean War and entering the NATO were considered concrete steps in the development Turkish foreign policy. There were several reasons that Turkey?s integration with the West politically and militarily. But, the most important factor the Turkey?s integration with the West, was the threat of Soviets. Turkey decided to have a better relations with the West and Arabic countries. With the exception of this, another reason related to Turkey?s integration with Western Bloc was necessity economic and military aid for development of Turkish economical system although it was not coercive like Soviet pressure. After Turkey?s integration efforts with the West, Turkey economically and militarily especially after take in part in NATO were considered positively because, Turkey benefited Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan which were initiated by the US. After the Second World War the US and USSR entered the influence competition over the Middle East region. This fact affected Turkey?s relations with the Arabic countries negatively. In the Democrat Party period Turkish foreign policy was changed because of European dominant powers and US approaches to Middle East considerable different than the past. All these developments caused Turkey?s relations with Non-alignment and Eastern block negatively. After the Second World War, CHP decided to have a close relations with the West and DP followed the same foreign policy.DP reached to accomplishment related to integration to Western Bloc manifesting differences than CHP. For instance, CHP when was in power in Turkey tried to insert Turkey to NATO but it could not be successful. This attempt reached to accomplishment when the DP was in power. In this period, US and UK which were the dominant powers of the West firstly approached to Turkey indifferently. But after the developments in the Middle East, the behaviours of dominant Western powers changed in a positive way toward Turkey. In this study I am very thankful to my adviser because of his academic helps.
