Analyzing the symbollical characteristics of embassy buildings

This thesis is the result of a study to examine, record and classify the architectural characteristics and the function of embassy buildings in the representation of national identity concerning the Turkish Embassies. In the study, besides the foreign politics of Turkey in different historical periods, the architectural repercussions on embassy buildings of the dominant social, political, economic features and architectural millieu of the same period are tried to be elaborated. Different cases having an architectural representative characteristics and the embassy buildings of foreign countries other than the Turkish cases are referred to when necessary. The comments of variety actors in the realization of these Works are analyzed to elucidate of the issue in various levels, as well. The similarity manners on the space organization of the embassy buildings are exposed by this investigation. In the meantime, while similar discursive and formal levels related to the national identity are perennial in architectural discourse in Turkay, the architectural representations of national identity in ?East? and ?West? countries are observed to indicate differences.
