Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to identify the problems of history teaching in History Departments and History Education Programs offered by Faculty of Arts and Science and Faculty of Education which are among some of the Higher Education Institutions in Turkey.In this study, survey research was conducted in generating research data. By means of the survey research, this study has examined the problems and conditions of the History Departments and History Education Programs in universities of Republic of Turkey. Study assessment was implemented based on perceptions of faculty members and students in History Departments.The unit of the study was made up of the faculty members and students in History Departments in all Turkish Universities. The sample of the study was composed of 70 faculty members and 300 students in the History Departments of Gazi, Hacettepe, Ankara, Marmara, Istanbul and Balikesir Universities.The results of the study has pointed out some findings in regard to duration of a class, education materials, departments? research capabilities, number of students, library services, building conditions of classrooms and buildings, content of history classes, student counseling services, duration of a history program, history education in foreign language, history text books, alumni job opportunities, and effects of history education in sensory integration.
