+CI/+CU affix of nominalization in Turkish

Abstract (EN)
This study analyses +CI/+CU, one of the most commonly used affixes that produces noun from a noun, since the emergence of Turkish to modern day within the context of historical Turkic dialects as well as Turkish of Turkey. The aim of the thesis is to detect function and divergence of meaning since the commencement of Turkish to today, and provide examples to them from literary texts and dictionaries in various historical periods, and conduct diachronic study. Furthermore, offering solutions to the problems of the affix is another objective of the thesis. The study first keeps a record of words that use +CI/+CU affix in computer environment by scanning dictionaries of historical periods, texts that reflects linguistic characteristics of the period and indexes of these texts. Then, the recorded words are sorted out according to their functions and transferred to the study. Consequently, keeping the samples from Turkish of Turkey and those used in historical periods, functions of +CI/+CU affix and definition divergences were detected. It has been comprehended that the most significant function of the affix is "a person who has habits, conducts certain activities and professions".
