Abstract (EN)
The demands of some major food in Turkey have been analyzed. Single commodity study and LA/AIDS models were used for analysis. The data used for analysis cover 1970-1994 time period. The demands of bread, sugar, margarine, mutton, chicken, beef and milk were analyzed in single commodity framework and the demands of dairy products and meats as a group of food were also analyzed in LA/AIDS framework. The autocorrelation was faced in the demands equation of mutton, beef, chicken and milk. Because of these, the elasticities of these foods were not given. Li single commodity equation framework income elasticitities of foods were found as -0,16 for bread, 0,42 for sugar and 0,18 for margarine. The own-price elasticities of foods were found as 0,11 for sugar, -0,22 for bread, and -0,04 for margarine. The expenditure elasticities of milk and milk products by using LA /AIDS models were found 0,96 for milk, 0,58f or yogurt, 0,43 for cheese, 0,15 for butter. The own-price elasticity of cheese (-0,96) was found comperativly high. The own-price elasticities of other commodity as follows cheese are milk -0,72, yogurt - 0,60 and butter -0,23. respectively. The expenditure elasticities of mutton (1,44) and chicken (1,12) were found higher than 1 by using LA /AIDS models. These findings show that the increases of income can cause the high increases in expenditures of these commodities. The expenditure elasticity of beef was found as 0,67. As findings of LA/AIDS models for meats, own price elasticities are - 0,33 for mutton, -0,14 for chicken, -1,09 for beef
