Abstract (EN)
At the beginning of this research, a series of publications and theses about the fa- cade and facade technology were investigated. Turkey is located in an important earthquake zone because it has a geographical location that includes active fault lines. Based on the last research related to seismic actions, facade cladding is more vulnerable to damage than structural elements. The behavior of non-structural elements after seismic vibrations is one of the most critical issues in design and application. The technical data of the facade cladding systems used in many projects are generally prepared by facade consultancy firms in Turkey. These technical data provide the application and assembling methods. Facade systems in high-rise buildings and large areas of buildings can cause poten- tial technical inaccuracy. Therefore, it can endanger people's health and safety. On the other hand, experimental studies before production and use are necessary to understand the seismic performance of the facades. Currently, facade systems used throughout the country are not properly controlled using regulations and directives that pose a danger to the living things in and near the building due to seismic tremors such as earthquakes or strong winds. Structural details formed by the development of technology may not pro- vide the necessary strength during the production phase and the material may be deformed earlier before the end of its economic life. While this situation creates extra costs for buildings, it can also pose a danger to the environment and lives. With the development of technology, standards and application details in the field of construction are changing. The elements that play the most important role in the connection of buildings with the exterior are the facades. Unexpected results can be encountered, as non-structural ele- ments and facades can greatly alter the overall seismic response of the building. The building where the facade system is located, the region where it is located, and the purpose of use of the building are very important in the selection of the façade. This study tries to classify the cladding facade systems used in Turkey in terms of seismic performance. Additionally, the facade damages that occurred in past earthquakes, the structural system deformations that occurred at the facade connection points, and the risks that occurred according to the facade types are investigated.
