Employment opportunities of office management and secretarial education grad students in Turkey

The current study examined the grad students? business opportunities of Gazi University, Faculty of Commerce and Tourism Education, Department of Office Management Education which is established for training vocational teachers and the only department in Turkey now.The aim of the study was to investigate the present situation of business opportunities of Department of Office Management Education grad students. Additionally, it was point out the decrease of teacher assignments about Department of Office Management Education since 2000. Although the Department of Office Management Education should be given more importance nowadays it has seriously lost its reputation due to the decrease of Ministry of National Education (MEB) Office Management and Secretarial Teacher assignment last decade.Thus, this study investigated the present situation of employment opportunities of Department of Office Management Education grad students. For this, the descriptive analysis was used in this study. The data was gathered from the websites of various public institutions and correspondences in these public institutions, about asking information. Besides, statistical data which was about these public institutions was used.According to the results of this study, it was found out that in spite of the positive works such as Strengthening the Vocational Education and Training Systems in Turkey (MEGEP), there are serious planning and implementation problems in structuring the vocational education. In the field of Office Management and Secretarial Education, these problems are experienced particularly at the level of secondary education up to undergraduate education and this filed under the study is the most striking example explaining these problems.
