Abstract (EN)

The dizzying speed created by globalization, on the one hand, makes social problems archaic, and on the other hand, causes new social problems to emerge. The increasing losses of disadvantaged groups in the face of social problems make it vital to identify social problems and to present a perspective on these problems. Social policy plays a key role in identifying social problems and providing solutions. The meaning and future of social policy, which aims to provide general welfare by seeking solutions to social problems, is constantly being re-created not only by practices but also by academic studies. When thought like this, the question of how social policy workers give meaning to social problems and how they structure them becomes even more important. As representatives of the social policy tradition in our country, students of the Labour Economics and Industrial Relations (LEIR) department are of particular importance in defining social problems. Because; The CEEI department and social problems are compatible on the basis of both interdisciplinary approach and social policy education. Therefore, in this study; By examining the current status of LEIR education, it is aimed to contribute to the debate on whether LEIR has moved away from the social policy tradition by examining both the perspective of LEIR students who receive social policy education on social problems within the subject areas of social policy and their perceptions of the department. The sample of this study, in which the survey method, one of the quantitative study methods, was used, consists of fourth-year students of the LEIR department. In this research, the "View on Social Problems Scale" developed by the researcher was used as data collection tools. As a result of this research; It has been observed that LEIR students give pro-social policy responses to social problems. However, it has been observed that there is no move away from the "social policy tradition" discussed within the field in terms of perspective on social problems. When we analyzed the variables that affect the LEIR students view of social problems, it was seen that the view of social problems did not change according to gender, income adequacy, survival status, housing situation, number of siblings, employment status of their parents and grade point averages. On the other hand, the perspective on social problems varies significantly depending on age groups, parents' marital status, presence of a disabled person in the family, family's union participation, parents' education level, parents' income level, and their perceptions of the university and department they study at.
