The efficiency of environmental management in Turkey and a case study at Ereğli Sugar Factory

The environmental problems have been very frequently mentioned since the second half of the 20th century and this matter has been so escalated dramatically that it is not possible to ignore and disregard. Depending upon this evalution, some measures and way of solution has been tried to be taken. Nowadays, the view that the environment can be manageable phenomenon has begun to be adopted. To tackle with the environmental issue both public and private sectors have great endoveours and invovements in many countries of the world. Almost all attempts pertaining with the environmental management aim to prepare a life providing a healthy and stable environment for all existences and nort endanger the future posterities and, paralelly, maintain the natural resources and economic progress of the country. Public sector has great rsponsibility in cerating the effectiveness and efficiency in environmental management, on the other hand, the firms are bound to carry out the important functions in implementing and applying the efficient and effective environmental management systems with the consciousness that the lost and loosing environmental assets inflict them drastically. In this study, focused on the efficient and effective environmental management systems in our country, the general peculiarities involved in the environmental management systems have been elaborated and the present organization of the environmental management systems of Turkey presented. At the same time, the problems arised from the environmental central organization, legal order and jurisdiction have been determined and the offers of solution have been presented along with the environmental decision making process.
