Reflection of the body image in the works of contemporary woman artists in Turkey as a means of resistance

In the present thesis study, the artworks of woman artists in Turkish contemporary art and the representations of woman bodies in their works have been examined and evaluated. In this study, which analyzes the reflections of woman body image in Turkish contemporary art, the works of prominent artists with woman body image have been examined. In order to be able to conduct the evaluation, a thorough review of sources was conducted, and three leading woman artists in Turkey who prominently feature the woman body image in their works were accordingly selected. An effort has been made to establish a multidimensional perspective on the works representing women from previous years by these selected artists. Through this research, the three woman artists, İpek Duben, Nilbar Güreş and CANAN, with their works related to the woman body in Turkish contemporary painting, were evaluated within the context of gender roles and cultural identities of women in our country. The objective of this study is to understand the transfer of societal roles that women assume or are expected to assume in the representations of woman artists in Turkish contemporary art. It aims to conceptualize by examining the differences or commonalities in the representation of the woman body image within the conceptual and artistic context, seeking to understand its reflection in the representations as a means of societal resistance.
