A review of traditional sohbet meetings in Turkey

The subject of our research constitutes "the traditional sohbet meetings in Turkey.'' Sohbet meetings both bearer of oral traditional culture as well as a form of entertainment from the past to the present is a social orgaznization especially during the long winter nights coming together to spend a pleasent time and provides social solidarity. The aim of our research, is to reveal the place of traditional oral culture sohbet meeting in Turkey, the structure and the current status. Traditional sohbet meetings that remained in the shadow of the mass media as a result of the technological development, preserving itself against single-typified the culture imposed by globalization can not be passed on to new generations, today actively continue meetings in the regions ongoing schedule execution ground lost to face in an environment faced by the protection shall be recorded in tradition with such work is intended to promote and transferred accurately to next generations. Our research covers a wide area due to a general study to traditional sohbet meetings. Our guide field is located in different districts and towns, including settlements. Our research consists of Konya, Akşehir (Konya), Kastamonu, Tosya (Kastamonu), Gerede (Bolu), Mudurnu (Bolu), Gümüşhane, Tokat, Üzümlü (Tokat-Erbaa), Mardin, Kızıltepe (Mardin), Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Gaziantep, Afyon, Sandıklı (Afyon), Kütahya, Simav (Kütahya), Ankara, Keskin (Kırıkkale), Antalya, Bursa, Çankırı, Balıkesir, Pamukçu (Balıkesir-Altıeylül), Dursunbey (Balıkesir), Kemaliye (Erzincan), Isparta, Sücüllü (Isparta-Yalvaç), Kula (Manisa), Yozgat, Denizli, Aksaray, Çorum, Sivas, Boyabat (Sinop), Havza (Samsun), Karabük, Adıyaman, Edirne. Field of guide method is applied within the framework of observation (participant or outside), interview, guide and resource people to collect materials during the research. The data about the researh of traditional sohbet meetings done from the written sources or internet databases during the library research. To collect data during the research used voice recorder, digital camera, video camera, tripod, external memory, battery and interwiev notebook. This research is prepared to investigate as text and context-based of traditional sohbet meetings in Turkey. Research consists of input section, four chapters, results and additionals. The input section of our research consist of "The subject, field and purpose of Research", "Research Method and Theoretical Structure" and "Terms", "Research method" and "Terms" titles. First section in our thesis is named of "traditional sohbet meetings" structure examined according to fields. It focused on total twenty different names in sohbet meeting under this heading. In the second section, there is a "general characteristics of sohbet meetings in Turkey" title. In this title, the structure of sohbet meetings; the members of meetings and management structures, conditions of participation, rules, time, venue, seating arrangement, clothing, meeting, drinks and foods, fine, meeting types, functions of entertainment are examined. Third section is "the functions of traditional sohbet meeting" and it includes six titles. In the last section of reseach, is named "Modern World and Traditional Sohbet Meetings". At the end of the thesis, result, resource person list, bibliography, dictionary, additionals (sample question paper, shapes, tables, photograhs and map) are included. As results of this research, in different regions of Turkey sohbet meeting is known as similar or different names. It's development and current status, executive order, general haracteristics (members and management structure, conditions of participation, rules, time, venue, seating arrangements, meeting types, clothing etiquette, food-drinks, fine and functions of entertainment) has been demonstrated in a whole with detail and examples. Sohbet meeting is evaluated in the framework of intangible cultural heritage. It focused on valuable assistance of associations and the media to introduce and continue this tradition.
