Semiotic analysi̇s within the frame of the ideology of the woman photographs as preferred subject in selection of news photography in Turkey's national newspapers

Abstract (EN)
In this study which analyses representation and presentation of women in newspapers by photographs placed on cover page (first page) of newspapers, photographs has been taken in frame of women ideology. In the scope of this study, history of women ideology, fundamentals of opinions and the current status of women act were tried to explaining. Structuralist thought in which indicators creates structures were evaluated in historical improvement process of semiotics which is transformed photographs to meaningful texts, and semiotics application methods were evaluated. In the scope of this study, it was tried to determine that women photographs was published in which news more frequently and whether there is preference for women photographs in photograph choices with representative forms of women in photographs. Semiotic analysis was used with content analysis together in this study. According to circulation reports, the best selling 5 newspapers in Turkey (Hürriyet, Sabah, Posta, Habertürk and Sözcü) were scanned. In data obtained from content analyze, findings which is similar with news oriented researching about forms of representation of women were reached. It was detected that there are only men in approximately half (%48.44) of the photographs on the newspapers, as for women; they took place only 1 of 5 photographs (%18.35). In qualitative analysis of the study, semiotic analysis of photographs which contains only women in matters concerning the whole community or both women and men was made. In consideration of literature, it is emphasized that paternalistic system and gender roles bringing on this system caused that women is seen secondary, weak and worthless, not as a equal existence with men, and limited with being only mother and housewife. Also, it is surfaced that women have problems in scope of representation of women in media along with their unique existence. %25 of limited number of women photographs (%18.3) published is that shows women as a sex object or pleasure object. While the rate of photograph which women was represented as an equal existence with men is only %12,67, the photographs which women was generally taken placed is on the matters of terror and refugee or on magazine news and public peace. As a result, it is surfaced that semiotic analysis of photographs which women was taken placed generally contains meaning and connotations about specific form of representation, any women photographs was not preferred to use on any political or scientific matters.In consequence of semiotic analysis, it is detected that generally women have meaning and connotations which reinforce social roles of women as sex object or pleasure object, addict on fun, cannot hold her emotions in check and far away from logic, subject of pain, mostly victim or victim's relative, mother or self-sacrificing,
