Abstract (EN)

This study bearing the name 'The Journalist and Intellectual Identity in Turkey: Attilâ İlhan' is a historical and contemporary examination. Based upon the thesis that the identity of journalist and of intellectual cannot be separated in Turkey and proving it with the detections put forward, this study bears the characteristic of being the first in its field.The study firstly addresses the general characteristics of the journalists and intellectuals of the Ottoman era and the discussions they made. Then; the agenda of the journalists and intellectuals from the foundation of the Republic until now; the background of the discussions and the general characteristics of the journalists and the intellectuals of this period are detailed in the study which is also analysing and discussing the basic characteristic of the Republic.The study basically concentrates on Attilâ İlhan. İlhan is a journalist and intellectual that problematises and discusses the journalist and intellectual mentality in our country and he has the characteristics to be counted as an ecole for this matter.Attilâ İlhan has a socialist, republican, Atatürkist, patriotic journalist and intellectual identity. But his main emphasis is on the national one. He also expresses his critiques on this ground. İlhan mentions that the journalists and intellectuals do not bring up with national consciousness, can not display national attitude and for that reason they are in the position of serving to imperialism. Attilâ İlhan is all by itself the representative of a journalist and intellectual core. He has followed a consistent line in all periods of his life. This consistency of him has necessary characteristics to be a good example. This study depicts this precision and presents the characteristics of İlhan's journalist and intellectual identity.Key Words: 1- Attilâ İlhan 2-Journalist3-Intellectual4-Ottoman5-Republic
