Abstract (EN)

In this project, the most detailed prevailing wind and mean wind velocity maps of Turkey on a topographical layer will be prepared. Thus, the areas with high wind potential could be investigate more in detail and the wind areas with high wind power potential that haven't been studied or not provided would be determine. Recently, wind energy showed high growing trend among renewable energy resources and the studies about wind energy must be related to meteorological observations. Therefore, the highest possible number of observations should be used in order to obtain accurate results. The number of AWS installation by TMS highly increased after 2012. The number of 1983 stations has mean wind velocity data 1934 stations have a prevailing wind velocity and direction after the year 2012 throughout Turkey. Increasing number of meteorological observations because of AWS intended to be used and the investigation of Turkish wind energy potential was aimed at the most accurate and contemporary maps. Besides, the composite map of prevailing wind velocity (vector) and mean wind velocity (scalar) over a topographical layer of Turkey has not been prepared before. Inner Western Anatolia is located on high and flat plateaus, which are open to the northern sector throughout the year. Therefore, strong gradient winds are seen in these areas due to both the low friction effect and the favorable regional gradient conditions throughout the year. It can be predicted that the strong wind seen in the south of the Marmara Sea is caused by the cooling of the Marmara Sea because of the relatively cooler waters coming from the Black Sea and the increase in the temperature difference with the land. Because of the temperature difference between land and sea in the spring and autumn months; In other words due to the decrease in average wind speed, the lowest wind speed is in the autumn season across Turkey.
