Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted using a qualitative research design to explore the professional experiences of nurses who completed their nursing education in Turkey and currently work in the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Data were collected through online individual in-depth interviews with a total of 30 participants (10 from each country), selected via snowball sampling. A semi-structured interview form consisting of 12 questions, developed based on a literature review, was used for data collection. The data obtained were evaluated by content analysis method using the MAXQDA 2024 program. The findings were collected under four main themes: "the process of going abroad," "living abroad" "working conditions of nurses," and "suggestions for those who want to work as nurses abroad", and were structured as subthemes and codes. xvi While improved professional opportunities and economic gains emerged as key motivators for migration, major challenges identified included language proficiency, degree equivalency, and cultural adaptation. Participants noted that they coped with experiences of discrimination and loneliness through both individual strategies and institutional support. Significant differences were also reported between countries in terms of job descriptions, professional autonomy, and patient expectations. Finally, the importance of both professional and social preparation for the target country was emphasized. Based on participants' narratives, it was concluded that migration is not merely a spatial relocation but rather a multilayered process involving both professional and personal transformation. In conclusion, the overseas experiences of nurses are complex and context-dependent, and the challenges encountered throughout this process should be addressed at both individual and institutional levels. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that policies be developed to support guidance, preparation, and adaptation processes for nurses intending to work abroad. May 2025, 148 pages.
