The effects of national movement idea to the young organisations in Turkey: The example of Ülkü Ocakları

The purpose of this study is to put forth the influence of "nationalist movement" thought, which is considered as one of the important political movements in the evolution of the idea of nationalism in Turkey, on Ülkü Ocakları which has been continuing its existence as a youth organization through associations and organizations founded under different names since the mid-1960s. This study, which aims to express the development of the nationalist movement thought in Turkey on the basis of Ülkü Ocakları consists of three parts. In the first part, from the concept of nation, the process of emergence of national states and nationalism has been examined. The development process of the idea of "nationalist movement" in our country has been explained by discussing the development of the idea of nationalism in Turkey, events considered important in this process and the milestones. In the second part of the study, the establishment process of Ülkü Ocakları as a youth organization emerging under the influence of nationalist movements and the transformation process of associations and unities established under different names of the organization have been examined. Later on, the basic values and concepts possessed by Ülkü Ocakları, education and organization structure, aims and ideals have been explained. Ülkü Ocakları's fights in universities and the negativities experienced after the military coup have been told, and the significance of the concept of nationalism and the significance of it in the terms of nationalist movement have been discussed. In the last part, the purpose and organizational structure of Ülkü Ocakları and social responsibility projects have been told. Finally, through the "Nationalist Movement Questionnaire", which is a bridge between the present and the future of the nationalist movement, what the movement means in terms of ülkücüler has been explained; and the idealism consciousness of the ones committing themselves to the movement, level of organizational commitment and the future concepts have been revealed.
