ABSTRACT DETERMINATION OF THE SUITABILITY OF TURKEY'S OUTDOOR CLIMATE CONDITIONS WITH SUMMER AND WINTER COMFORT CONDITIONS Hasan SUN M.Sc., Department of Mechanical Engineering Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şaban ÜNAL August 2022, 58 pages In order for people to feel thermally comfortable in their environment, a certain level of thermal comfort must be provided. The level of thermal comfort depends on variables such as temperature, humidity, air velocity, radiation, type of clothing, and activity status. In this study, the suitability of Turkey's external climatic conditions for summer and winter thermal comfort conditions was examined on an hourly basis. The suitability of external climatic conditions with respect to summer and winter thermal comfort conditions was determined according to ASHRAE standards. In the study, 5-year temperature and relative humidity values obtained from the General Directorate of Meteorology for 81 provinces in Turkey were used. By taking the average of the temperature and relative humidity values on a monthly basis, their variation during the 24 hours of the day was obtained. Provinces in Turkey were separated according to geographical regions, and comfort conditions were evaluated according to the average of these geographical regions. According to the results obtained, it has been determined that the comfort level is quite low in the summer and winter months for the Central Anatolia, East Anatolia, and South East Anatolia regions; it is very cold in the winter months for the Black Sea region; and normal at certain times in the summer months. It is possible to say that the outdoor air is far from comfortable conditions for the Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean Regions, usually at noon in summer. Key Words: Thermal Comfort, Temperature, Relative Humidity, Outdoor Environment, Turkey, Geographical regions.
