Abstract (EN)
In our country and Europe, St. Jonh?s wort oil is obtained by soaking the flowers of Hypericum perforatum L. in olive oil for minimum 15 days and used for wound-healing purposes. In this thesis work, 23 of St. John?s wort oils which are sold after preparation using the traditional method by aktars and also the ready-made oils produced by various companies have been obtained and their acidity index, peroxide index, iodine index and saponification index as well as unsaponifiable matters have been determined according to European Pharmacopeia. Besides, fatty acid compositions of the oils have been investigated using GC-MS technique. As a conclusion, colors and fatty acid compositions of the oils prepared using the traditional method have been found to be more suitable as compared to the ready-made oils. It has been also found out that the ready made oils receive their licences either as ?cosmetical preparation? from the Cosmetics Branch of the Ministry of Health or as ?food? from the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural AffairsResults of the thesis which has been the first study on this scope indicates that quality control properties as well as a standard preparation method for the St. John?s wort oil used for therapy by ordinary people should be cleared and the oils should be controlled more carefully at the stage of licencing by the correspondent authorities.
