Social municipalism in Turkey: The case of Konyaaltı Municipality

Globalization, neo liberal politics and increasing migration movements to the cities cause the increase in duty fields of local managments. Municipalities have began to service socail aid, social service and in the field of social and culture other than its fundamental duties. The new duty fields burdened to the municipalities named as "Social Municipalism". The first two parts of this study, literature review of the facts related to the social munipalism,the concept of the social munipalicity and applications and developments of social munipalism in Turkiye has been widely made. In the third part, by choosing the documentary analysis from the qualitative research design Municipial of Konyaaltı is researched. In this research strategic plan of Konyaaltı Municipality (2015-2019), 2020-2024 strategic plans with its performance reports and service reports and data in the its 2020 service reports are used. According to data gained from the research social aid of Konyaalti Muncipality are given as public reliefs.it is found from the numeric data in the service report that Konyaaltı Municipality has many services intended for social services and citizens living in its region benefit from the services. In addition; Konyaaltı Municipality serves especially in the social field, cultural field, art field actively and its services vary. It is seen that to overcome the deficiencies in the some services related to disadvantaged groups the new projects take part in the performance programs.
