Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in order to compare the history, geography and civics textbooks and curricula taught in Poland after the reform made in 2017, and the social studies textbooks and curricula taught in Turkey with the help of document analysis. The study is limited to the curricula obtained from the Ministry of National Education of Poland and the textbooks of Nowa Era publishing, and the curricula and textbooks obtained from the Ministry of National Education of Turkey. Textbooks could not be physically examined in depth due to the researcher's access to certain pages of the books. For this reason, the colors and images used in the cover design of the textbooks were evaluated. At the same time, Polish history, geography and civics curricula and Turkish social studies curricula were examined in terms of the similarities and differences of achievements, values-skills, teaching-learning processes and assessment and evaluation methods. In the research, a total of 14 textbooks and 4 teaching programs were examined. A total of 10 books, 5 of which are history, 4 are geography and 1 are civics, are the textbooks of Poland. In addition, 3 of the curricula are Polish history, geography and civics curricula. On the other hand, 4 social studies textbooks and 1 social studies curriculum from Turkey were examined for the study. It was concluded that history and geography education in Poland was prepared with a single-disciplinary approach, but civic education was prepared with an interdisciplinary approach. According to the results, it has been understood that the achievements of social studies in Turkey have less detail than the achievements of history, geography and civics taught in Poland. It is thought that the gains are more intense because Poland transfers history and geography education to students with a single discipline approach. When the textbooks in Poland and Turkey are examined, it is concluded that Poland reflects the content more in the textbooks than Turkey.
