Abstract (EN)

This study examines graduate theses prepared on the language acquisition of Syrian children migrating to Türkiye and aims to evaluate the general trends, methods, and findings of academic research in this field. The processes through which Syrian children acquire Turkish language skills, the challenges they face, and the impact of language policies on this process are among the frequently discussed topics in these theses. Studies demonstrate how the traumas brought on by the migration process, cultural adaptation challenges, and educational policies affect the language acquisition process. Furthermore, it has been determined that Syrian children develop communication skills rapidly but require more support in their academic language skills. The theses examined emphasize the effectiveness of the methods used in Turkish language teaching, the contribution of visual and audio materials, the effectiveness of accelerated language programs, and the importance of pedagogical approaches such as game-based learning. Furthermore, the effects of language policies implemented in Türkiye on the Turkish language learning process of immigrant children are analyzed, and suggestions are offered for how these policies can be improved. The findings of the study reveal that academic studies make significant contributions both to overcoming obstacles in the language acquisition process and to strengthening the Turkish language skills of immigrant children.
