Social and cultural adaptation of Syrians migrating to Turkey

This study addresses the social and cultural integration processes of Syrian refugees who have sought refuge in Turkey. Considering that more than a million Syrian refugees live in Turkey and their integration into society is a multifaceted issue, understanding this subject deeply is of vital importance. The social and cultural integration of refugees involves a wide variety of factors such as language skills, education, labor market participation, societal acceptance, and ethnic relations. The impact of Turkey's refugee policies on the social and cultural integration of Syrians has been emphasized. In addition, it has been noted that the language barrier poses a significant obstacle to the integration of refugees and more effort is needed to overcome this barrier. In this context, it has been stated that there is a need to expand refugees' access to Turkish language education programs and to improve Turkish society's perception of Syrians. The importance of education and employment opportunities, which play a significant role in social integration, have been addressed. Cultural integration involves both the adaptation of Syrians to Turkish society and the acceptance of Syrians by Turkish society. Therefore, the development of intercultural relations and understanding plays a vital role in the success of refugees' cultural integration.
