The use and evaluation of hadiths in the 9th-grade religious culture and moral knowledge textbookprepared according to the Türkiye Century Maarif Model

In this study, the use of hadiths in the 9th-grade Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge (DKAB) textbook prepared within the scope of the Türkiye Century Maarif Model was examined and evaluated from a pedagogical perspective. The research aims to reveal the role of hadiths in providing students with moral gains within the framework of values education by analyzing the model's influence on the content and instructional approach of the textbook.The study was conducted using a qualitative research design through document analysis, and the 2024–2025 textbook was selected as the material for review. A total of 82 hadiths were identified in the book; these were classified according to their units, and their sources, textual accuracy, and degrees of authenticity were evaluated. The findings indicate that the majority of the narrations originate from primary hadith sources such as the Kutub al-Sitta and the Musnad, and that they are generally authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) narrations. A limited number of weak (ḍaʿīf) hadiths appear to have been included to contextualize the subject matter or increase student engagement.It was also observed that some hadiths were presented in shortened or simplified forms for pedagogical purposes. While this approach facilitates comprehension, it may, in certain cases, weaken the integrity of the original text. Therefore, it is recommended that simplification be conducted carefully to preserve the original meaning of the hadiths, and that explanatory footnotes and contextual information accompany the texts.Overall, the study concludes that the hadiths used in the DKAB textbook are based on reliable sources and fulfill pedagogical functions.
