Abstract (EN)

In this study, the Tuzluca Dam and hydroelectric power plant which planned to be made in a region among Aşağıçıyrıklı, Ağabey and Aşağıbaşköy villages on the Aras River in Tuzluca district of province Iğdır for irrigation and electricity generation purposing with 20 MW installed capacity and reservoir area of 16.52 km2 were discussed. Data for related to analysis were collected to be taking into account parameter of the dam and the land, population density in the region and the area impounding the reservoir and cost of environmental impacts of Tuzluca Dam were analyzed. In the general information section of study, various information related to renewable energy sources, hydroelectric energy and dams were given and dam – environment relation were examined. The studies section, Tuzluca Dam were introduced and data related to project were given. In the symptoms section of study, cost of environmental impacts of Tuzluca Dam and hydroelectric power plant; GHG emissions, the cost of life loss that could occur in the event of dam collapse, relocation road which planned according to two different situations, cost of land loss and agricultural production loss and costs of resettlement were calculated by taking into consideration. As a result of the environmental impact cost analysis which made, environmental cost in terms of one MWh electricity generation were calculated as about 33.66 $ (127.91 TL) for Tuzluca Dam. Cost of environmental impacts that calculated; was compared with dam construction cost, increase of agricultural income and electricity generation revenues. It has been determined that the within 7.89 years Tuzluca Dam will amortize cost of construction and the cost of environmental impacts of 50 years by energy production.
