Abstract (EN)
Travelling by planes has become indispensable to in the life of people. The most important reasons for this are safe and short journeys. In order to ensure a safe flight , the aircrafts are maintained at regular intervals. During the maintenance operations of aircrafts, large amounts of waste are generated and there are energy and water consumptions. Waste generation and these consumption in aircraft maintenance centers are important in terms of both cost and sustainability. In this thesis, determination and applicability of alternatives in the scope of Waste Management Regulation are examined with regard to determination, recovery, disposal or re-use of solid, liquid and gas wastes formed in an aircraft maintenance center. In addition, the change based on years in the amount of waste generated during aircraft maintenance was compared with each other. As a result of the evaluation, it has been observed that in every year while the percentage of non-hazardous waste generation decreases, the percentage of hazardous waste generation increases. This is due to the fact that the increase in aircraft maintenance and unpredictable long detailed maintenance because of increase in aircraft age. Furthermore, when the human factors are analyzed, it is seen that the increase in the rate of waste generation is because of lack of experience due to rapid employment and people's unconsciousness about the environment.
