Abstract (EN)

Turkey's above-average economy growth has caused an increase in per capita income in recent years. Increase in income together with developments in socioeconomic and demographic factors has led to an increase in consumers' choice of air transport among transport preferences. Those choosing air travel in transport selection take service quality, ticket prices, time, security into consideration. Airline companies must analyze the consumers' preferences correctly in an increasingly competitive market. This research is related with two goals. The first aim of this study is to examine why passengers prefer air transport among different means of transportation. For this aim, airway transportation preference in both domestic and international travel will be examined in Turkey by comparing different means of transportation. The research will include domestic and international flights. The second aim is to analyze which type of airlines is preferred by the individuals in air transportation. In this analysis, the airline companies will be divided into classes as traditional and low-cost airline companies. The "Heckman sample selection" model to be used in transportation selection analysis will contribute to the literature because it's used for the first time in the selection of transportation means.
