Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to put forward that the page designs of the newspapers published in Turkey are compatible with the design criteria of Society For News Design (SND). In accoradance with this purpose, the opinions of the academic staff in graphic training have been asked with regards to newspapers published in Turkey. For this reason, a questionnaire has been prepared by the researcher.34 academic staff has participed in the research. The opinions of the academic staff have been asked about the compatibility of the randomly-chosen 7 local newspapers with the SND criteria. Newspapers, within the framework of SND criteria, have been evaluated under the headings ofA- Compatibility with regards to design criteriaB- Compatibility with regards to use of design elementsC- Compatibility with regards to effect of design on reader.When the evaluations of the academic staff about the newspapers regarding the design principles, the use of design elements and the effect of newspaper design on reader are generally considered, it is concluded that newspapers of Zaman and Radikal gets higher points when compared with other newspapers, while newspapers of Posta and Star tends to get lower points, thus remaining weaker than other newspapers.According to the conclusion of the research, the page designs of our national newspapers are found sufficient by the academic staff within the framework of SND design criteria.
