Abstract (EN)

The effects of the personality traits of individuals on various psychopathologies are known. Hoarding is one of these, and past studies suggest that there is a relationship between personality traits and hoarding findings. However, in the literature, no study examining the hoarding findings in the context of irrational beliefs in personality traits have been found. This research aims to examine university students irrational beliefs about their personality traits in the context of hoarding findings. To test the hypotheses created in the light of the literature, 305 university students 181 of whom were female and 124 of whom were male were applied the Savings Inventory-Revised Form (SI-R) and The Personality Beliefs Questionnaire-Short Form (PBQ-SF). When the data obtained in the study were analyzed it was observed that all subfields of beliefs about personality were positively correlated with all subscales of savings inventory and total score; the average scores participants received from the Narcissistic subscale had a statistically significant predictive effect on the average score they received from the Savings Inventory Clutter subscale; the average scores participants received from the histrionic subscale had a statistically significant predictive effect on the average score they received from the Savings Inventory Acquisition subscale and Difficulty Discarding subscale; that the average scores participants received from the Borderline subscale of Personality Belief Scale had a statistically significant predictive effect on the average score they received from the Savings Inventory Clutter subscale. Evaluating the stated variances, it can be seen that the beliefs about personality explain 33% of the Savings Inventory Clutter subscale, 23% of the Acquisition subscale, and 15% of Difficulty Discarding subscale. The findings of this study were compared with other studies in the literature, and the similarities and differences of both were set forth together with their possible causes.
