The investigation of the relationship between emotional intelligence, social appearance anxiety and hopelessness levels of university students

In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence, social appearance anxiety and hopelessness levels of university students. The sample of the study consists of 274 female, 90 male, totally 364 students who continue their education in Hasan Kalyoncu University in 2018-2019 academic year. In this study, Emotional Intelligence Feature Scale - Short Form, Social Appearance Anxiety Scale and Beck Hopelessness Scale were used. Data were analyzed with SPSS 22.0 program. Data were analyzed by independent samples t-Test, One Way Analysis of Variance, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests. According to the results of the research, the education level of the parents, faculty and class did not make a significant difference on hopelessness; hopelessness level of men was significantly higher than women. According to the Pearson Moment Product Correlation Analysis, there was a negative and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and sub-dimensions and social appearance anxiety; positive and significant between social appearance anxiety and hopelessness; a negative and significant relationship was found between emotional intelligence and its sub-dimensions and hopelessness. According to the results of Multiple Regression Analysis, emotional intelligence and its sub-dimensions and social appearance anxiety have predicted hopelessness significantly.
