Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between recreational awareness levels and problem-solving skills of students studying in the Faculty of Sport Sciences. In today's world, increasing academic and social pressures have made it important for university students to make effective use of their free time and engage in activities that contribute to their personal development. In this context, it is known that recreational activities enhance individuals' quality of life, improve their ability to cope with stress, and strengthen their social relationships. These activities are also considered to have a positive impact on cognitive processes and problem-solving abilities. The research was conducted using a quantitative method within the framework of the relational survey model. The sample of the study consisted of 337 students studying at Faculties of Sport Sciences at various universities in Türkiye during the 2024–2025 academic year. Participants included students enrolled in Coaching Education, Recreation, Sports Management, and Physical Education and Sports Teaching programs between the first and fourth academic years. Data were collected using a Demographic Information Form, the Recreation Awareness Scale, and the Problem Solving Inventory. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS 24.0 software. The distribution characteristics of the data were tested using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test. To assess the reliability of the scales, Cronbach's Alpha method was used and internal consistency coefficients were calculated. Independent samples t-test was employed to examine significant differences between groups, while Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore relationships between variables. The significance level was set at 0.05. The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between students' recreational awareness levels and their problem-solving skills. Additionally, significant differences were identified in recreational awareness and problem-solving abilities based on gender, grade level, and department variables. These results suggest that when students utilize their leisure time more consciously and purposefully, their capacity for problem-solving may improve. Based on the results, it is recommended that university administrations develop recreational programs aimed at helping students use their free time more efficiently.
