Moral maturity and social integration levels of different sport branches in university teams

The aim of this study is to investigate the levels of moral maturity and social integration of the students who take part in university teams. The study population includes 25 different universities' students who take part of university competitions that includes folk dance, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, wrestling, taekwondo and gymnastics branches that performed by Turkish University Sports Federation. The sample consists of randomly selected (n=548) students. As the data collection tool, the study covers personal detail questionnaire of 12 questions identifying sociodemographic characteristics of the students, Moral Maturity Scale and Social Integration in Sport. Statistical analysis of the data was done with SPSS 19.0 packet program including descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA test, LSD tests and multiple regression test. In the study, the moral maturity and social integration levels of the participants were examined and a significant difference was found in favor of male participants. In the study on the age of onset of sport, it was concluded that as the age of onset of sports decreased, the moral maturity levels increased. It was found that the integration levels of the individuals who have licensed athletes in their family are higher than those who do not. There was no significant difference in moral maturity levels among team sports included in the study, but it was concluded that folk dances were higher in terms of social integration levels than in other branches. Taekwondo, as a result of the moral maturity and social integration level among the individual sports included in the study, has been obtained.
